Fired? Get a Free Pass in Your Next Interview

Mistakes are the toll bridge we all have to cross and pay for. An important note here is to acknowledge that almost every great figure in history has either been fired or very nearly was. If you're terminated, without a doubt it was your bosses opinion that you be terminated, his opinion not yours. So you being fired is a matter of opinion, and we all know that everyone has an opinion, right?

Even if you've made a terrible mistake that led to your firing. Feel comfortable in knowing that mistakes are the toll bridge that we all have to cross and pay for. We are bound to make mistakes sometimes lots of the same mistakes, contrary to popular folk lore. Just give yourself some room in your mind and heart to make mistakes. Even lots of the same mistakes, Fernandes ravelle it's not what we want but its likely to happen at different points in our careers for different reasons.

So how do I explain getting fired? - and get others to understand my point of view.

GETTING THE FACTS STRAIGHT

1. The first step is to write down exactly and in detail what happened.
2. The second step is to create a 1 minute explanation that summarizes what you have written into one short paragraph (2 - 3 sentences).
How you explain your experience means the difference between future success and failure.

IMPORTANT POINTS TO FOLLOW FIRST;

· Don't lie that's the worst action you can take; lies are often hard to keep secret.
· Do not complain about your former employer to anyone especially a prospective employer.
· Say the same in thing your summary but in a lot less words.
· Focus on the facts not your emotions when discussing this experience.
· You may want a detailed explanation, just in case you have a legal recourse.
· You need to be able to memorize and smoothly repeat your summary.
· Always focus your discussions on your strengths.

GETTING A FREE PASS You know how difficult it is to get someone to understand your point of view? Well, I'll share a simple phrase you can use to get others to understand you easily and have the phrase do the job for you.

What I say is - "You know how" that's it.
By saying those word you can get others to see your point of view, easily.

Let me share some examples of how you can use this technique. If you're terminated for any of the reasons below I've described an example you could use, if applicable.

· Attendance - You know how difficult it is when you have a sick family member? - Simply explain the sickness of your family member, but let them know that you now have the situation under control and have a very reliable backup.

· Performance - You know how difficult it is to learn a totally new position? - Simply explain that the position didn't play to your strengths, than explain what you're strengths are. Focus your short explanation on your strengths.

· Attitude - You know how difficult it is when taking classes and working overtime is? State that you realize that you have a driven personality and that you have completed your schooling and feel free and energized.

CLOSING COMMENTS A few last notes, employers don't expect every prospective employee to have a perfect past. We all make mistakes; you're obviously not challenging yourself if you don't.
